He's had a powerful effect on many around me as well as myself. I'll always be grateful to him for introducing me to eastern religion and philosophy. But, moreso, he had a way of, like you say, elevating the spirits and making you feel exhilirated about life. His passion and energy were, and still are, contagious...invigorating. One of my favorite quotes from the "Companion" book you mentioned, which I had printed in large letters and is now hanging on my wall facing me this moment, is "The goal is to live with godlike composure on the full rush of energy, like Dionysus riding the leopard without being torn to pieces."
