The glacial pace of Tolstoy's novels can be hard to take. If you're in a Russian frame of mind, I'd suggest you try either Gogol or Dostoevsky or Chekhov ... you should be in better hands with any of them.

This is not to say that I don't admire or respect Tolstoy. I just don't enjoy reading him.
