John Fowles, book on genocide, and Said
I'm reading "The Magus" by Fowles. So far, its really rather spectacular...a sort of "angry young man", john osborn version of john cellon holmes...I'm also reading "A Problem from Hell: American and the Age of Genocide", and it is absolutely incredible. The author, Samantha Powers, writes like a first rate novelist, but researches like a first rate historian...every American should read this! An interventionist who did not support our recent invasion of Iraq (cool, huh?)...I also just finished the HUGE Said anthology "Reflection on Exile" and have concluded that the man is one of, if not the, greatest literary minds of the century.
