The Tao of Physics
by Fritjof Capra. A fascinating study of the parallels and similarities between theories in modern physics and the tenets of Eastern philosophies such as Taoism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Some of the physics is hard to grasp (much as Stephen Hawking's writing can be difficult for a non-scientist), but nevertheless it is a fascinating book and well worth the effort. Although he's a scientist, Capra's discussions as to the fundamentals of Eastern beliefs are some of the clearest and easiest to follow that I have encountered.
