more. There are those who want only to follow the mass appeal, but great novels, and otherwise unknown observances into human nature, are a gift for everyone. I read most of Steinbeck early on and his gift is universal...its up to the individual to absorb the meanings and perhaps get some clue as to our connected human condition. I'm actually happy that Oprah is now recommending works that have lasting influence, that appeal to the "universal soul". I, for one, would love Everyone to see how complex and beautiful being alive is. There will always be that One individual that is influenced by these works, these honest feelings in heartfelt novels and will be inspired in their own life or creative ventures. Whats wrong with that?
