Homage To Catalonia -- Orwell
The day before yesterday was Orwell's birthday, or should I say Blair's birthday, and he would have been 100. I can't help but wonder what he'd make of today's current affairs and from reading Homage To Catalonia I'd bet he'd be none too pleased.
The book itself is a great read as are all his works. It describes the Spanish civil war without a single trace of self heroism. He details the dour circumstances which faced those sent to man the trenches at the front line in juxtaposition with those of the Popular Army left behind to protect Barcelona. The horrors he describes are not done so with an air of honour nor an air of heroism but with Orwell's own complete and utter infallible nobility.
