Just finished The Jungle by Upton Sinclair...

...and I think it's crap. Granted, the book is widely known as a big advertisement for Socialim, but I thought it had to go to some pretty cheap methods to drive it's point accross. Who the hell wants to read a story, and get connected to characters, and have them get crapped on, over and over again, only to have the savign grace be socialism. The book ends with most fo the last 50 pages being a bunch of speeches about Socialism and the main characters and storyline is all but abandoned. Sinclair torments you with most ludicrous crap happening to the main characters (like a little boy being trapped in a factory and eaten alive by rats). Maybe I'm being overly-analytical but I think this is a pretty cheap way of promoting a political belief. I'm also going to go as far as saying I don't see this as a classic. Let the firefight begin...
