Excuse me, gentlemen, but as an Englishman, I must interject ...
The 19th century writers are our spiritual forefathers. They started what we now continue. Mr De Quincy has a wonderful style. If it seems cumbersome, that is our fault not his. And, apart from minor imperfections, such as the odd stain of laudanum on his waistcoat, Mr De Quincy was irrefutably a perfect gentleman and a man of many parts.
