Posted to Indies

Are you aware of any writing or speculation regarding how the posting of something on the internet could be used to proof copyright or ownwership? Is this being discussed in literary or publishing circles?
You know, if I posted a story, for example, on June 3, 1999 on Litkicks, then put it out as a book, and someone copied my book, wouldn't I be able to retrieve data to prove when I first posted the story?
I know you are not an attorney and you don't even play one on TV, but Matlock was busy and I didn't know who else to ask.
