One-Man Wake

Posted to Poetry

Maybe tonight
I'll light a fire
For all of those who couldn't
Bear to let themselves expire

But instead chose not to take
Whatever their way would come
Instead decided to end it
In their twisted wisdom

For them I sit alone,
Drain my tea by midnight,
And stop to consider why
It is they might

Didn't they ever watch
The sun rise
From behind crescent smile
And welcoming eyes

Or take in the small things
That make it worth being
Those who saw the world
Without really seeing

So these soft embers glow
As twilight comes to view
In memory of all those
Who never really knew
