Maugham's "The Razor's Edge" is one of my all time favorite books. Larry Darrell, the protagonist in Razor's Edge, is a character you want to emulate. Maugham is a great story teller. He travelled all over and his short stories are the results of a great writer blending his experiences into some excellent fiction. "Of Human Bondage" was the big book in about 1918 and made into a pretty good movie with Leslie Howard and Bette Davis. Gore Vidal's memoir "Palimpsest" is a great read.
