there is no "long view" political program upon which most people would agree. no utopia. best to be practical and act on what definitely needs to be done. getting Bush and other neocons out of office isn't about bringing about a positive program, it is about preventing others from bringing about their program -- that is, it is a defensive move, which when the times are as they are, must be done. right now, the only program is to defend liberalism against the onslaught of right-wing reactionaries like Bush et al who would destroy the constitution, set back all the advances in international human rights and humanitarian law by fifty years, and otherwise fuck up the world and turn it into a perpetual war zone and industrial wasteland. preventing that is the political program worth fighting for. it may not tickle one's spirit or bring thoughts of victorious joy to mind, but it is essential for the survival of freedom.
