I was not stoned when I wrote this, but it is a bit wierd...

One day war will be seen as ridiculous. Our forebears will sit back with astonishment, I believe, when they look back at history and see that their ancestors deemed murder on a mass scale the best way of solving disputes about land and money and resources...

Although, one thing occurs to me. How many people have died in wars since 1900? I don't know the answer. Perhaps someone does. Anyhow, I wonder what the population would be if their had been no wars, none at all, nada, zip. Would we even be able to cope with the amount of people there would be now, and all the houses, extra pollution, and all the cars, and the noise? Would we have the room? Where would all the houses have been built? What would this have done to the natural resources of our planet? The rainforest, surely, would be completely kaput.

Perhaps we are genetically predisposed towards war in order to cull off some of the race. Maybe we know there are not enough resources for everyone, or think there are not, and create situations that allow wars to happen...

No, I don't suppose I really believe that we are genetically pre-disposed, not really (I don't think), but I do wonder whether there would be enough provisions in the world if all of the people who died from wars had not. Especially with all of the advances in medicine and people living longer. I mean, human being have colonised every continent apart from Antarctica, what with our great big brains and opposable thumbs (I have only one, believe it or not, which is neither here nor there), and our tools, and exploitation of the elements and natural resources, and so on. Maybe God (if she exists) never expected us to do this well, or maybe she did and added on this little war-instinct so that we wouldn't over-run the planet before we had marshalled together the technology to live in outer space, which we are not too far off from doing. Maybe wars will stop soon when we realise that there is plenty of space for everyone and plenty of provisions to be had out there in space. That would be nice, wouldn't it? I'll sign up for that.

I also wonder how far advanced we would be in the space-race (see Hicks) if all the money we had spent on weapons had gone into that far nobler venture, space-travel (although, I guess much of what we learnt for use in space we learnt from the development of weapons).

We celebrate diversity of culture constantly. We say let's protect dying languages, religions, indigenous peoples. We say ethnic differences should be respected. And I advocate protecting everyone also. I am a nice guy, don't want to hurt anyone, honestly. But maybe we should all be the same. I think we all will be in the future. I think we will all be American and there will be no more war and we will live in space as Americans. I don't support this idea, really. How can I? I only just thought of it. But it may well happen. If you gaze far enough ahead into the future can't you imagine it, like John Lennon said, all of us living as one, in space (he didn't say that bit). Maybe that "one" will be the USA, or Japan, or Lichtenstein. That seems to be the way it is going. American products, drugs, weapons, foods, wars, ideas, clothing, mass media, as we all know, lead, or are near to leading, everywhere around the world. The only thing standing in the way? Muslims. That seems to be the answer, right now, at least. Muslims are the only ones who are really challenging American ideals in a stand-up and be counted way. I don't agree with any of this. These are just ideas I am thinking as I am writing. Really, they are. I am not suggesting that you go out and kill Muslims (some of my family are Muslims) in order to collectivize under the banner of the USA, stop all wars, increase space-race spending, dissolve all nations, and move quietly into space holding hands humming the theme tune to Star Trek. No, I am definitely not saying that. I mean if everyone did it naturally (became American, I mean), off their own back that would be great, just super, and we could spend billions and billions more on the adventure towards space, and if we were all Americans we could all decide how to change "America" ("The Global Country") as we would all be willing citizens. We could even change the name from America to something else, it wouldn't matter. We could call ourselves Muslims. American Muslim Jews. Once we were united and in space it wouldn't matter. It is a difficult balancing act though, because while we are building these new homes for colonies in space and developing the technologies to find other inhabitable planets, we have to make sure that the population doesn't get too high, and that
means more wars, more deaths, more expenditure on arms. I have lost the thread of what I was saying. This needs editing like a bee needs a flower, but I will just submit it for your fury or complete disregard...

Here goes...

I may edit this... I just did. I am not crazy, just bouncing ideas that make no sense in a world that makes no sense.

Ooh, a spider...
