I don't mean to suggest that. Nam was a horrible mistake from the very beginning. Ho chi min was very pro- American and dissappointed that the US used it's ships to transport the French army back to Indo-china. DeGaulle blackmailed Truman by threatening to throw in with the Communists in France if we did not help France regain her colonies. the fear of a Communist takeover in all of Asia motivated the use of American forces in Vietnam. We never should have gotten involved in a civil war. my concern was for the memory of young soldiers who thought they were doing the right thing by stopping an invaision from the North. Of course one could ask if the war in Korea was meaningless as well. Ask a South Korean.
