Politicians make a career of hollow promises while the body bags pile up.

The humanity required to see others as ourselves is rare. Rarer still is the genuine statesman (-woman) with a sense of vision who can guide us somewhere besides oblivion.

I'm not convinced that an inarticulate, "born-again" true believer from Texas who lies his way into wars is the right candidate for swerving before we end up in the ditch.

But, of course, Jim, in his mercy, is trying to see even that photo-opportunist with the plastic turkey in his arms with some compassion.

And I, no defender of our Selected President, as you all know, say yes to that.
