There's no problem necessarily with the mix of text and image links. However, here are some examples of what seems to be a convoluted page.
"What are you reading?" sits off to the left hand side, all by itslef.
"Buy Litkicks T-shirts. . ." sits so far to the right, that you have to scroll over to read it. This also sits all by itslef.
Under "The Genres" portion, you have a section with Literary discussions, etc. which just seems difficult to get a handle on because it is laid out differently.
I'm not bashing the sight, but I just find the main page confusing. If I was coming to the sight for the first time, I would feel somehwat overwhelmed and confused. I was discussing your sight with a friend of mine. He said he checked it out and couldn't figure out what was going on from the index page.
Just some constructive critcism.
