... my favorite Chekhov. The various members of the family spend a lot of time freaking out over minor issues, dealing with internal rivalries and gossiping about each other. Meanwhile, their faithful lifelong servant takes advantage of new government economic policies to suddenly become the owner of the entire estate. In the last scene, the family is forced to leave the house and the cherry orchard gets mowed down.
