Haiku along the Road from San Francisco to New York ~1959
by: Jack Kerouac, Albert Saijo, Lew Welch
A small book (58 pgs) that had some interesting information on Jack thru the recollections of their trip together.
Alber Saijo's recollections: the trip began before Thanksgiving while he and Lew Welch lived in a communal apartment (Hyphen-House) in San Francico. Jack stopped in from a television appearance on the Steve Allen show, looking tired and drinking heavily. Lew was out of town visiting his mother in Reno when he heard that Jack was in town so he came back... with a Willys Jeep.
The initial story is about the trip the three of them took across country in Lew's Jeep back to New York so Jack could spend some time with his mother. Along the way they wrote some haiku which comprises the majority of this slim volume.
