landscape and environment

I understand all the gruff about overrated cult writers and i think a lot of people come to kerouac expecting to find a reflection of his popular culture image which is not necsaarily the image at the heart of the book. For me, I always get an overwhelming sense of loss and a desire to experience and record ideas ands thoughyts before the moment passes. I also think kerouac is superb in documenting hidden urban spaces like diners and bus terminals, bringing your attention to corners of the world which would otherwise slip by unnoticed. He's often not lamenting a lost paradise but trying to find beauty in the present moment before that too moves out of reach.
