Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Kerouac but I think he lacks Burroughs genius for language. Bukowski is blunter and funnier and easier to relate to.
Keroauc was right at the forefront of the movement, a pioneer. But sometimes the first through the door is the one left behind.
If you compare it to music, the first punk bands opened the doors for others, and many of the bands that followed like Joy Division and The Smiths took their attitude and blue print, and left (arguably) better legacies.
