Pedro's Sentiment but not in Pedro's voice

Posted to Utterances

Interesting poem/rant, guess it's an elegy or an agreement or a statement of solidarity with the late Nuyorican poet.

But anger is anger. It's hard to build on anger, or communicate via anger.

I think Pedro recognized this. He may have been angry, he certainly recognized the problems and issues he & his fellow Nuyoricans (and by extension Puerto Ricans) faced everyday, but one of the great things about Pedro is that he communicated his anger via humor and eccentricity.

That is to say, his poetry was not about shouting with spittle flying but was about the funny aside, the witty insight, the twisted-around logic, the contradictions.

Regardless, though, the man deserves celebration. He was a very unique, very friendly, open poet.
