Personas vs Real Self

Posted to Utterances

Does anyone ever feel that when you're surfing this site that you operate through a persona that remains latent through everyday life? Is communication through a computer by the means of an electronic mask a distortion of reality? When one enters the world of litkicks, is one entering a world of pure illusion, full of funhouse reflections of people's true personalities? If so, is there a redeeming value to this?
Also, to anyone who has met someone on this site and then met that person in real life, were you surprised to find how different the person was in the flesh as opposed to their online persona?
