you people are hitching your wagon to the wrong star
with this whole "lets allow pornography anywhere" thing.
the argument put forth that pornography on front porches is ok because "why shouldnt people be able to?" amounts to, essentially, anarchy, which we've already demonstrated on these very boards is not a viable alternative to our current social structure. why shouldnt people be able to do anything they want?
the biggest problem with your argument is that sex does not equal pornography. i agree that our society is all fucked up and that we abhor sex and embrace violence and that that is a bad thing. i agree and hate that we teach our children to be victims and i agree and hate that we screw them up by making them think sex is bad.
but that doesnt mean that everything is ok. that doesnt mean that we open up the world to a free for all for anyone who wants to do whatever they want in plain view of everyone else, particularly in plain view of people (children) who have limited life experience and limited capacity for mental comprehension of what they witness.
i dont want my children growing up hating sex. but i also dont want them growing up thinking that sex is what you see in many pornographic movies.
i also dont want my children exposed to scenes of rape, murder or other violent acts, all of which could be viewed on big screen tvs on the front porches of people everywhere, using the "logic" displayed in lovey's original thread.
if you want to promote a better understanding in our young people of sex, you'd do well to stay away from promoting pornographic movies in plain site of children, because thats using completely faulty logic, and people are going to think that the cause of promoting a better understanding in our young people of sex is just something that idiots who think kids should watch porn are in favor of. in other words, please step away from this issue, or else you're going to make the whole thing worse.
