me, as i was thinking yesterday.

the use of "superior" (as with the use of "Resolved:" to evoke a debate like atmosphere of arrogance) is just to provoke strong opinionated discussion.

anyway, the point about combining media is that, yes, writing and music and photographs are older than cinema but their combination is the key; just as greek tragedy combined elements of music and poetry etc. into a complex artform of its day, film did it in the 20th century.

anyway, of course who can pick a crappy film like encino man and compare it with literary masterworks like moby's dick, but i could do the same: can you tell me that a danielle steele novel is better than a felini film?

the point is that the best of film is at least as powerful, and more efficiently powerful because more intensified and condensed in time of consumption, as the best of books.
