as a former copyboy at the gray lady

and armed with my Master's degree
from 'ole Mizzou'
World's greatest J-school
it took me less than six months for me to see
the monstrosity of it all

the ideal was truth
but the truth
was businesss
what sells
brings in the money
not truth
truth flipped out

somewhere
objectivity became a myth

and truth a joke

i don't regret my decision to turn my back
on journalism

about the same degree of professionalism
as used car salesmen
or junk bond dealers

somewhere
america
took a wrong turn

we've become a money grubbing gang of thugs
pointing our guns at anybody who disagrees with us

the truth
is mine the same as yours

or as Socrates asked
in the Phaedrus

and what is truth?
and what is good?

need we have others
tell us these things?
