that i really like the point you're making here.
journalism as a viciously corrupt industry is relatively new, having pretty much found its inspiration in the nixon thingy.
so maybe we're still getting used to this, how to handle marketable news.
of course there was that whole yellow journalism thing, too, and that was back in the early days.
humans suck when it comes to selfless acts, and journalism, unless it's encorporated into some crazy privatized socialist hybrid something or other, is always going to be just like every other industry that needs money to survive.
honestly i think journalism is only noble for newcomers and the people we never hear about. i have a second cousin who publishes great stories for the nytimes magazine out of the middle east, mainly. he's noble of course.
but i have a hard time making the argument that journalism is only criticized because it criticizes mom and apple pie, if thats what you're saying. i'm not so sure of that. journalism isnt so unmuddy.
