I didn't find the publication of these journals overly commercial -- I thought the publishers did a respectable and respectful job. The book mainly consists of first drafts of lyrics, letters, drawings and notes, all of it illuminating to anyone who takes his work seriously. I think that Kurt was proud of his work and would have wanted people to have this material.

He couldn't stand living (he especially couldn't stand living as a rock star or, apparently, as a father) but he seemed always to thrive in creative situations, and that's the aspect of his life that these books emphasize.
