there is music in the tune of others

Posted to Utterances

there is music in the tune of others,
each little neat numbered pick of a note,
each piece of solitude, the craft itself,
each lone road characterized by the replacing
of an arpeggio with a drumbeat track,
each, an instrument played with precision
by the craftsman who oiled its body,
rubbed down its wood - a guitar, a violin,
a piano keyboard fingered with delicacy.

there is music in the tune of others.
each early hour of the morning,
a new melody to write, each drop
of a pick to the floor, a new reaching
down and out to retrieve the chord
begging to be played.

there is music in the tune of others.
it is not how they trade off harmonics
or waves of inspiration.

no.
it is how they go from theme to variation
without missing a note, the way they go from
key to key, minor to major, the issues of
a composition, the issues of the orchestration
of creators.

there is music in the tune of others.
i relate to the pen and the chord.
it is the parchment where the documentation
of a chart is placed, but it is in the record,
the recording of hearts where
melodies are made.

there is music in the tune of others.
we listen to how it is played.
