nana's sox

Posted to Action Poetry

White scalloped edges, tops folded over,

covering old ankles, pudgy..not shrunken at dachau anymore

..going to the sturdy american balcony, new wrought iron

replaced that rickety, old slanting bunch of

boards..mezuzzah protected of course--no evil spirits here.

More sox.. hanging on the line,

swinging in the winds of freedom..

freethinking, free gathering..worn at

a price,

hearing winchell at 9pm:

hello mr and mrs america and all the ships at sea.

Tattered blue airmail letters, reread many times..maybe she

missed something.

Letters dont come anymore.

siblings in cinders..long since one smokey chimney

had its way with them. clean sox every day now.

no evil spirits here.
