some sunny day

Posted to Action Poetry

tentacled fingers stretch
across the pavement
reaching for the
gray barked circles
wrapped around a darker core
showing the disease that sealed its fate
years to grow
then a buzz saw
a chipper
some determined workers
brought the giant down
leaving naked the house it once shaded

still standing
across the street
the young tree reaches
its shadows stretching out
if only to embrace its lost friend
the sun shines
death comes
all is done

struggling to hold
life's remains is sad
and empty

sure the future is
a buzz saw
a wood pile

on some other sunny day
