saunders is a much quicker read. houllebecq is longer - he's french, so it's more subtle than most american books, but he's more subversive and a little fuckin nuts to boot. while most peope who read saunders enjoy him, houllebecq is a bit more risky a venture. you might hate it, but give it a shot. he's well worth reading.
