You and I are in perfect accord about keeping cats inside for identical reasons.

Sasha, our sainted cat who lived with us for eighteen years and whose ashes we have on the 100-year-old writing desk, was outside for his first two or three years. But a tail abcess and other difficulties convinced us to keep him inside the rest of his life.

Boris and Sophia play wildly with me. They have active enough lives.

YJ has always been outside and is, to everyone but me, semi-feral. And he is in poor physical shape, but still eats well. He's also quite old.
