my only interest is what they do on the job. when bottles of booze and beer are found in firehouse lockers, when drunk firefighters on the job bash each other in the head with folding chairs, that raises a flag with me. drinking on duty is inexcusable whether they're alcoholics or not.

while it's possible that all cops are not adrenaline junkies, all the ones i know (family and friends) certainly meet the criteria. it's a job that offers excitement, danger and constantly scenarios. this would seem to appeal to a certain type of person, the same way electrical engineering might appeal to another.

the NYFD commonly refers to itself "new york's bravest". they have lobbied heavily as a special interest group for special consideration and representation, aside from the other victims, in any memorials at the site of the future Freedom Tower.
