Rich man, poor man...
In fiscal year 2003, total federal spending was $2,156,536,000,000. The year's (purported) $3 billion for AIDS and "related programs" constitutes barely over 1/10 of one percent of that amount.
We're paying 106 times this for interest on the national debt. (In fiscal year 2003, the U.S. government spent $318 billion on interest payments to holders of the national debt, currently $7,260,575,067,498.94.)
Also consider that in fiscal year 2003, individual income taxes generated about $987,209,000,000 federally, which is only about 46% of total federal spending.
I understand questioning the principle here, but understand that the actual amount really is negligible.
