Shamatha, at least I think so.
My point is that Let America Be America Again is much more than a “gloomy, rambling poem” and that Hughes is much more than a “communist poet”. And that’s what the author reduces them to because he does, indeed, take things out of context.
While he quotes from Goodbye, Christ, his labeling is aimed at Let America.
