i don't really know that much about bukowski. what i do know seems interesting and intriguing...the mere fact that he made his life work for him. but...what my narrow eyes always look at is the female perspective. i've read about the beat women...and how they were preceived as only shadows to these men. in reality, so many of them were so great it's just no one noticed. that these men, some of them, womanized, lied, cheated, used them without even thinking how the women would feel saddens me. after reading about those women, some who made the decisions to sleep with these men, marry these men, create with these men...and some who simply fell in love with them and their mad minds/lives, i feel regretful that the men couldn't see what they were doing to these women. the words these women write are such tributes to the beat men in their lives...but they were so tainted and jaded by them...do/did the men ever know they're doing it? bukowski apparently was one of those men.
