Philosophy Weekend: KRS-One Speaks

Existential Hiphop Music

Today's guest philosopher is the great KRS-One. Despite the title, the classic Boogie Down Productions track "My Philosophy" doesn't directly address questions of epistemology, ethics or metaphysics. But it says a whole lot, and you can't deny the vocal stylings of KRS. In a few seconds, a philosopher will begin to speak ...

Fresh for '88, suckaz.

yup yup. they were going strong in 88. imagine what bdp might have done if they hadn't taken scott la rock out. yet krs-one is still true to the game, as he stopped by the sf state university campus not too too long ago, and was himself, that's kris!

"In about four seconds, a teacher will begin to speak..."

KRS One always was (and still is) a beast.

Love the post, Levi. More hip hop related (even tangentially) posts please.

There's a guy on Youtube called The Hooded Negro who critiques philosophy and philosophers in a funny interesting way. Check him out. Also check out Gay Jesus while you're at it.

Great video to post! "By All Means Necessary" was/is a great album. Great sophomore effort. I like it even more than "Criminal Minded". Summer of '88 this was on my Walkman constantly (along with EPMD's "Strictly Business"). And it's still in the mix on my iTouch. I usually get a little KRS-One everyday.

Scott LaRock lives!
