Beat News: December 3 1997

Kathy Acker, a courageous neo-Beat experimental writer who emerged as an exciting literary talent in punk-rock-era late 70's New York City and has been writing good deconstructive transgressive stuff since then, has died of cancer at the age of 53. Here's a site devoted to her.

I'm really sorry about the way Beat News is turning into an obituary page lately, but I have to report that poet Denise Levertov has died. Born in England in 1923, she was introduced by San Francisco's literary ringleader Kenneth Rexroth to the Beat crowd that emerged there in the late 50's.
