The last few were kind of difficult, so I’m taking it easy on all of you with this week’s Litkicks mystery spot. In fact, it’s a goddam walk in the park. Just tell me what this is a picture of, and name the novel that this image represents.
Every single one of you has read this book. And I bet every single one of you loves the scenes (though you may not want to admit it) that take place among the structures towards the upper right of the image above, and around the body of water in the bottom part of the image.
Another great literary moment from a completely different novel also took place at a spot visible in this photograph. But you don’t want to know about all that.

Gotta be The Catcher in the Rye, right? Though I will admit my memory of the Central Park scenes are a bit foggier than they’ve any right to be, given that I re-read the novel about three years ago.

I’m immediately reminded of John Rechy’s novel Numbers, about a gay hustler’s quest for quantities of anonymous sex. A lot of the books scenes are set in a park in California, and I’m intrigued by your clue – ‘every single one of you loves the scenes’ that take place there, ‘even though you may not want to admit it…’ All of us closet cases?!

A few respondents have advised me that this question is not actually much easier than the others. I thought it was easier just because the book is so very, very popular — but I suppose it’s true that it may still be tough to figure out. So here’s a good hint (and something I should have mentioned in the original post): the map I took this image from is a map that dates to 1951, and that happens to be very appropriate for this novel.

My excuse for not getting this: I read it in 1960 – Christ, that was 50 years ago! Shit!!
Thought it was Catcher in the
Thought it was Catcher in the Rye – when Holden’s fretting about the ducks. The other two I can think of that fit the original clue are Great Gatsby – I think there is a scene in the Plaza – and a less known novel – Mama I Love You by Saroyan – scenes are set at the Plaza and the southern part of CP.
