What Are You Reading
What Are You Reading?
by Caryn Thurman on Sunday, July 10, 2005 04:25 pmSince we covered what you're probably not reading this summer, how about letting us in on what you are reading? Are you plowing through a summer reading list and discovering some new favorites? Or, are you like me and can't seem to get into anything lately, leaving a stack of books languishing on the nightstand? Share your picks and pans here -- or pick up a recommendation or two.
What Are You Reading?
by Caryn Thurman on Thursday, June 2, 2005 08:53 amIt's barely June, but various newspapers, magazines and websites have been trotting out their "summer reading lists" for several weeks now. I'm not really sure I get the need for a "reading list" specifically for summer. Ok, sure, maybe it made sense when I was in school and there was an obvious break in my daily routine; but now I'm even less likely to have the time (or desire) to read during the summer than any other season. Besides, what about those readers in the Southern Hemisphere? I imagine that most LitKicks visitors have a year-round reading list that doesn't depend too much on the calendar. With that in mind, what exactly are you reading? Anything new, anything good? Tell us a bit about what you've been reading lately or what you're planning to tackle next. And if you happen to have a summer reading list, we'd love to hear what's on it -- but don't be surprised if we don't get around to checking out those books until autumn.
It’s That Time Again…
by Jamelah Earle on Monday, May 16, 2005 09:13 amYes, that's right, it's time once again to tell us what you're reading, be it good, bad, ugly, fascinating, brilliant, or just plain dumb. (And if what you're reading fits one of the aforementioned adjectives, be sure to explain why -- especially if it's good, because I'll soon be looking for something to read.)
Yes, tell us -- what are you reading?

Where (and What) Are You Reading?
by Caryn Thurman on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 12:29 pmWe're always interested in hearing more about the habits of readers and writers. Why? It's because we find people infinitely fascinating and well, we're also nosey. Oh sure, it may seem like we are trying to get some good book recommendations or to find out if anyone shares our pick for favorite poem. This is just a cover for our neverending curiosity about you. We often ask "What are you reading?" or "What are you not reading?" and even, "What are you writing?" -- we're not afraid to admit it -- we like to pry. And so that brings me to the question: Where are you reading? Are you the type to carry a book everywhere you go? Or do you stash it exclusively in your desk at work or on the nightstand? Do you find you must have a book to read on the bus, train or plane? Do you read each night in bed before you fall asleep or do you have a favorite reading chair? (And while I'm sure the toilet is a popular reading spot for many, I think that's probably beyond the scope of even my curiosity. But thanks anyway.)
I recently learned that May is Get Caught Reading month. To give us a head start, tell us where we could catch you reading, what your literary routine is and of course, what you're reading.

What Are You Reading?
by Caryn Thurman on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 01:25 pmWe'll return to our regularly scheduled Seen & Heard programming next week, but today I'd really like to know what you're reading. Have you been hearing a lot of buzz about any one must-read book? Maybe you're reading a new selection from an old favorite -- or trying something completely new. Share your latest reads, how you picked them (or how they picked you) and what you think of them so far.
Methods to the Madness
by Caryn Thurman on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 01:17 pmWithout trying to be too nostalgic, books come into our lives in many strange and wonderful ways. Often the story behind how we became interested in a particular author, genre or book is as telling as the effect those pieces of literature have had on us. How did you discover your favorite author, book or style of writing? A divine accident? A school assignment or recommendations from a friend?
Going a little further, how do you decide what to read next? Is it purely whatever catches your eye? Do friends and family recommend things for you to read? If so, do you heed their advice -- or purposely go against it? Do you pay any mind to the wild and wacky world of book reviews? I'd like to know if a good review makes any difference to you in terms of your reading list -- or if a bad review makes you that much more curious.
Let us in on how you pick your reading material and tell us what books you're reading at the moment.

What Are You Reading?
by Caryn Thurman on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 01:18 pmWhile packing for an upcoming trip, I realized I had nothing on hand to read while on the plane or to keep me occupied between appointments. Sometimes the books we read while traveling are completely different than something we'd pick up at home ... you know, the random selections at the airport, the special considerations for easy carrying. What books have traveled with you recently? Have you picked up anything new or are you reading an old favorite? Tell me -- what are you reading?

What Are You Reading?
by Caryn Thurman on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 08:25 amThere are currently a slew of "holiday gift guides" recommending books to give to others or to put on your own wish lists. It seems like many of these are comprised of the latest best sellers or new releases from the major publishing houses and I often think that most lists like these are marketing ploys rather than sincerely useful suggestions. Of course there are some good exceptions, but usually the best recommendations are more personal. Perhaps you can get some ideas from the readers here at LitKicks or offer your own picks.
Have you picked up a new read lately or are you revisiting an old favorite? What's next on your list? Tell us: what are you reading?
