i watch you
in nightlight glow
so small still,
quiet and sweet.
your hair, pushed back,
leaving your face easy for me to see
from here, far away.
i see your lashes softly rest
against your innocence,
the curl of your mouth,
your forehead familiar
i remember…
you are just as i remember –
the day you were born
when i looked you and knew –
i knew…
just how wise you were.
even though these days pass like seconds
i wish to keep you here
in this perfect instant
i still see you this way,
i guess i always will…

i want to pick you up
but i just hold my breath
and watch you sleep.
