Sept. 6, 2001 — A new riddle is stirring up the dust of ages beneath the ground near Chillicothe, Ohio — It’s a great circle, completely underground, nearly perfect and some 90 feet across. The mystery: Why was it buried centuries ago near the creek’s leafy wetlands?— news report

they finally found it,
there, beneath
the brown ohio dirt
a corner earth
deep energy vortex
near where the ancient
serpent mound
slithers across the grass
built by the hopewell
a name they did not call themselves
a people with no history
no written record
just thousands of burial mounds
scattered across the landscape
ceremonial landmarks
in sacred legacy

a great circle,
that lies underground
hidden
thousands of years
its center agape
reflecting the mystery
of om interior lines

egypt has its pyramids
nazca its land drawings
easter island its heads

ohio’s mystic people
of 400 b.c.
vanished
like incense
into clear blue skies
leaving pure energy flumes
