so much younger than the stars
but so brightly she did shine
on that eve of eclipsed thoughts
her eyes deep as cabernet’s wine

shunned the passes like a juggler
the pieces of her puzzled looks
withdrew from fame and fortune
her appetites made jealous cooks

whet their passions streaming
as their lives dissolved on high
into fragrant mounds
that caused their breaths to sigh

miracles unleashed at last
from caverns never known
into the broad expanses
our mindlessnesses did roam.
