soon come

when we were writing
waiting, lighting nights
with fate, never late
the words came flowing,
soon come
soon come
knowing you
would

when we were igniting
flames of desire, fires
of want, never tired,
syllable by syllable,
verse by verse —
soon come,
you’d say, and i
immersed in languid
love, fluid, sanguine,
faithful, i believed.

soon come, you’d say,
soon come, i’d pray,
and so you did.

today we will walk
by the river, arm in arm,
heloise and abelarde,
sweet autumn breeze
finally kissing
cheeks touched
under the turning shower
of reddened leaves,
a sliver of harvest moon
in daylight witnessing

soon come
soon come…
the carriage is ready.
