here’s some info about computer viruses.. written by my son, Jason…… print it out, it’s very useful…. and if any of you are getting mail from me, just remember this, a kiss is just a kiss, hehe….. er… i mean….. if it has an attached file, unless i TELL you i’m sending you something, it’s not from me, really, so do NOT download the file, ok? it’s not my fault, really!!!

How Never to Receive Another Computer Virus
by Jason, aka gnosis

The purpose of a virus is to overload your server if you are on a network. First, viruses are usually transmitted by scripts. They are often created by kids who think it’s cool to wreak havoc. They are commonly referred to as “script kiddies”.

Now, these scripts all contain the filename extension .vbs

What you need to do is right-click the desktop, choose Properties.
Click the Web tab at the top of the window.
Click the Folder Options… button, and go into Folder Options.
Click the View tab at the top of this window.
UNCHECK THE BOX THAT READS “Hide file extensions for known file types”

Now, whenever you receive an email with an attatchment, if you see a file that contains the characters “.vbs” at the end, YOU MUST DELETE IT. It doesn’t matter who it’s from, if it’s someone you trust, or someone you don’t know. Modern viruses are sent this way, by forwarding through all of the names in the Contacts list, in your Address Book, and possibly in your incoming/outgoing mail. It forwards as if YOU sent it, so others will think that, trusting you, they can trust the email you’ve sent.

It is absolutely necessary to check for the .vbs extension in EVERY email attatchment you receive. Some viruses can be very damaging.

This should solve the problem.
