but i’ll leave you with a piece of advice that helped me quit drinking [the first time]. it was december 23rd and my life was in total shambles. i decided that i would quit drinking after new year’s eve. then i realized: if you’re destroying yourself, why wait to stop? you’re going to go to a meeting in a month? is that a month from today, or a month from next month? after six months of sobriety, i took a drinking holiday that lasted about five weeks. but i stopped again and i’ve been sober since this august. if you ever want to talk about it, let me know.

p.s. i have some friends that would be dead without aa/na, but the program isn’t for me. i don’t think it’s necessary, and i am unable to get past the core belief issues. that said however, i don’t think it’s possible to stay clean without support and therapy. you should know that aa isn’t the only place to find those things.
