And Then

What I love about you doesn’t age
The failures born of our passage
Presage the inescapable, ship to rapture
The sword of life will rust.

But rust is slower than fire
As long as we are fed, we flourish
And each of the organs eats
The heart, the spirit, the mind.

Will you love me when I’m not at the peak of my power?
When the hand shakes as it turns the page?
Each of the organs eats.
What I love about you doesn’t age.
