I’ve got Garcia Lorca with Spanish original and then English trans on the facing page. My Spanish isn’t fluent, but I read enough to see the work that is being done byt th translator. It’s interesting, but poetry isn’t an instruction manual, so how the language is used is as important as what words are used. I think that’s what you lose in translation.

You’re right, the ideal way would be for the poet to translate; to write a new poem, essentially.
