I like Crowley much more as a symbol of excess and anarchism than as a philosopher. But he falls in neatly with the kind of Pop mysticism represented by the panoply of New Age bullshit that people like Robert Anton Wilson have stitched into a crazy quilt of clever contradictions and psuedo science that claims to have something to do with Zen and enlightenment, when it is really just fantastic superstition of the most banal and fairytaleish sort.
I don’t care what outlandish gibberish you pass off as philosophy these days, there is some sucker that will buy the book, wear the t-shirt, subscribe to the newletter and go to the convention. The “occult” tries to do the same thing it has always done—obscure that which is obvious. My advice: Chop wood, carry water and keep the beat.
